In August 2026, the Standardization Administration of China issued ten new national standards for fitness equipment, including the core specification Safety Requirements for Stationary Indoor Fitness Equipment, to take effect in October 2027 and guide standardized industrial development.
Aligned with advanced international benchmarks, the new standards cover treadmills, exercise bikes, strength machines and wellness gear. They specify rigid requirements for mechanical structures, electrical safety, eco-friendly materials and protective markings, fixing inconsistencies between household and commercial equipment criteria.
As the National Fitness Strategy moves forward, China's fitness-equipment market keeps expanding. Nevertheless, some small- and medium-sized manufacturers adopt inferior materials and inadequate protective designs, creating safety hazards, disrupting market order and harming consumer safety and industry reputation.

New Standards Enforcement Accelerates Industry Reshuffle & Upgrades Domestic Fitness Product Competitiveness
Enforcement of new standards will accelerate industrial reshuffling, phase out low-end backward capacity, push enterprises to invest more in R&D and quality control, and end extensive homogeneous production. It will drive the industry toward standardization, safety and high quality and boost overall competitiveness of domestic fitness products.
